December 5, 2019

Winter athletes (except for swimmers/divers) are reminded that team pictures will take place tomorrow- Friday.  The schedule is posted on the fallschurchsports.org webpage.  The swim/dive pictures will be taken in January.     

There will be a boys soccer interest meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 10th at 3:00pm in the cafeteria. All boys interested in playing soccer should attend. The new head coach will be introduced!

The Winter Wear Drive has started! Now through  winter break! All clubs should have a drop off area in their room + drop off areas outside of the Cafe + office.  Donate gently used blankets, coats, gloves, hats, scarves for our FC community. Spread the word,  Let's all stay warm this winter                        

Young Scholars Workshop is this Saturday in room 239.  Bring your math and science questions with you.  Teachers and NHS students are ready and willing to help.  See you at 9AM.    

FCHS alumna, Magna Moses, will speak at the next Sigma Xi meeting at 3:05 p.m on Tuesday, Dec 10 in room 156. She will talk about her graduate school physics research on the “Great American Eclipse.”   The science fair help session will now be after school on Wednesday, December 18 in room 156.                        

Hey Jags! It's that time of the year again: Winter Spirit Week. It will be December 16-20. Monday will be PJ Day, Tuesday will be Ugly Sweater Day, Wednesday will be Winter Wear Day, Thursday will be Holiday Character Day, and Friday will be a Blackout. Make sure to bring your spirit jags.                        

Don't throw your grocery bags away! We need your clean plastic bags! Drop them off to be recycled outside of the office, academy office or cafeteria classroom.                         

Science students doing science fair-- Need help with Scienteer? Want some tips on making a fantastic presentation board? Wondering about what the judges might ask you? The Sigma Xi Club will hold a help session after school on Wed, *December 18* in room 156. Attend for as much time as you need!                          The winter sports season is underway - please check out the daily list of games/matches/meets etc. on the fallschurchsports.org webpage!

Congratulations the jv and varsity boys basketball teams for their big wins over Heritage High School last night!                     

The Gender and Sexuality Alliance Club will meet  right after school today  in Ms. Levy's room -- Room 242. That's today  right after school. Hope to see you there!

The NAHS will be meeting  today  after school in room 183 at 3:10 pm. This is a mandatory meeting for ALL current members. If you cannot attend come see Mr. Choi in room 183.         

The All A Awards Ceremony is today  during JAG 5 in the auditorium.  Please go directly to the auditorium at this time.     

Jaguar spirit wear will be sold today during lunches in the cafeteria lobby!

All of the clubs at Falls Church are working together for a Winter Wear Drive! Please donate jackets, blankets, gloves, scarves, hats and socks for Falls Church families in need.  Drop off areas are outside of the Cafeteria, student services or with any club!

The  Our Minds Matter meeting scheduled for  today  has been postponed.                       

Come to the next meeting of the Japan Club! It will be today, after school at 3 pm, in room 254---Mr. Mahan's room. No need to speak or study Japanese! All are welcome.    

Baseball conditioning will take place today after school. Any students interested in participating should meet  Coach Nolan in the gym lobby today at 3:15pm.

Congratulations to the cast and crew of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee!  The show was fabulous! Special thanks to Mrs. De Marco and Mr. Redden Liotta  for their dedication and hard work in  directing the play!

The  FCHS Theater performance of THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE runs tonight and tomorrow night at 7:00pm and a matinee performance  tomorrow - Saturday  at 2:00pm!  Please come out and support the Jaguar performing arts  and see this wonderful production!

Please come out and support the Jaguar Theatre Department and see this wonderful production!

Are you interested in issues impacting women?  We are holding the initial interest meeting for a new club called Girl Up this week!  Please come to Room 244 this Thursday at 3:15PM for our Girl Up kick off meeting to hear more about it.  We will have donuts and empowering conversation.      

Congratulations to Emmitt James, winner of last Saturday's Monopoly Tournament! Second place went to Jack Child. Thanks to all who participated and all who generously donated to this fundraiser for student scholarships.

The football teams will have their ceremony at a later date because the Jags are playing in the Region 6C football playoffs on Friday at South County!! Any student who would like to catch a bus to South County to cheer on the  Jaguars on Friday night  - please stop by the Activities Office for a permission form.

JAG 8 today will be focused on SR&R. After the announcements, students will be watching two videos – one on vaping and one on students’ rights and responsibilities here at FCHS. Students will also be receiving their SR&R books. Thank you to everyone for supporting Falls Church High School’s 2019 Homecoming festivities!  It was wonderful  to see such great participation  in the spirit days, pep rally, parade, tailgate, the Homecoming football  game and dance ! Also last night the Jaguar cheerleaders competed in the first round of the National District Tournament. The Jags finished in 4th place and will compete in the National District Championship next Tuesday- Oct. 15th at Wakefield H.S! Please come out  next Tuesday and cheer on the cheerleaders!

The first FCHS Club Council meeting will take place today  during Jag 8. Each club/class  should have  a representative attend this  meeting to find out about what’s going on at FCHS in preparation of Homecoming and other activities. The highlight of the day was senior Dylan Major placing 15th overall in the Varsity A race with a time of 16:51 on the 5 kilometer course.

The varsity football team’s home opener will take place tonight at 7:00pm vs. Park View!  There will be a tailgate before the football  game that will feature Hot 99.5 radio station - there will be games, music, and chances to win concert tickets! The tailgate starts at 6:00pm on the outdoor basketball courts. The Athletic Boosters are also have a cook out at the tailgate. Please come out and support the Jaguar football team, cheer with the cheerleaders and enjoy the marching band at half time!

Congratulations to the Jaguar Golf Team for its 172-173 defeat over Justice High School yesterday!  This is the 3rd year in a row that the Jags have defeated Justice by 1 stroke!  Way to go Jaguar Golfers!!!

The FCHS Theatre department is putting on TWO musicals this year: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee AND Seussical the musical!  Auditions are NEXT WEEK. Come to an audition workshop THIS SATURDAY from 9-12:30.  Cost is $10 or your Thespian Membership dues.                                                                                                

Have you signed up to audition for the two MUSICALS this year?  Come to room 181 and sign up on the wall outside the drama room.  See Mrs. De Marco if you have any questions.

Are you curious? Interested in doing scientific research and publishing your results? Want to join the world's largest honor society for scientists and engineers? Become a Sigma Xi Young Explorer! For more information, attend an information meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 11th from 3-4 pm in room 156.

Students who stay after school must be supervised by a teacher/coach.  Students who are staying after, waiting for a practice or event can attend Study Hall in the Cafeteria. Study Hall will take place Monday - Friday from 3:15-4:15pm in the cafeteria.

Our first poetry slam competition is October 12.

All students are invited to sit in the hype squad! see you there!  At George Mason High School, park for free in Red  #1 lot or pay $3 to park in the lot next to the stadium.  See you in the Hype Squad! Student black and white printing has changed. You can now print from your student laptop and then come to the library to pick up your printing. Look for the Library Ricoh in your printer options. Or you can bring your laptop with you to the library and print on the spot.

This afternoon, the Jaguar golf team hosts TJ at Jefferson District Park and tonight the  varsity volleyball team plays West Springfield at home  and the fr/jv football teams have scrimmages also at Falls Church . Please come out and support the Jaguars!
