Summer 2020 Virtual Credit Recovery & Continuity of Learning

Virtual Credit Recovery is an opportunity for students to recover one high-school course credit and receive a grade. 

Over three weeks, students will:

  • Take part in daily synchronous learning sessions with their teacher.
  • Complete daily online learning modules at their own pace (asynchronous).

Teachers will have office hours at set times and by appointment for students to ask questions. Schools will provide this information to the students.


  • Students are eligible to enroll in Virtual Credit Recovery for one course if they received a grade of F in that course.
  • Students may not take a course for new credit.

Important Information

Class Dates: July 6 – 24, 2020

Synchronous Times: To be determined by the teacher.


  •       FCPS Students: Free
  •       Out-of-County Students: Not eligible


  • Only students completing a course to recover credit will earn a grade.
  • Students will receive a credit recovery grade/credit in August.  The grade from June remains on the transcript.
  • Grades will be calculated according to guidelines outlined in FCPS High School Grading and Reporting to Parents.
  • Grade point average (GPA) is calculated on the basis of all courses for which credit has been earned or attempted, including repeated courses previously passed.

Withdrawal Policy

    • Students who withdraw from July 6 - July 9 may do so without a grade penalty.
    • Students who withdraw from July 10 - July 21 will receive a mark of withdrawn failing (WF) or withdrawn passing (WP).
    • Students who withdraw after July 21 will receive a mark of withdrawn pass (WP) or fail (F).

SOL and WorkKeys Testing Requirement

  • SOL tests will not be administered during the summer.
  • In the fall, contact your school counselor for additional information about testing requirements.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are pleased to invite your Falls Church High School student to participate in the Continuity of Learning summer program. This program is free and optional. It is available to all students and will be virtual. Students will access self-directed learning materials to develop skills and concepts in mathematics and literacy. The materials are not collected or graded. This program is different from Credit Recovery summer school. 

Falls Church High School teachers will be available weekly during office hours to provide feedback and support students with their learning. Office hours will be held beginning June 29th through July 31st. In addition to mathematics and literacy support, there will also be a teacher to provide Special Education support and a teacher to provide English as a Second Language support. The schedule of teacher office hours can be found below. All students will be sent an email to their school email address (their student ID# with details on how to access a secure link to join weekly office hours. This link will take you to the FCPS Summer Learning Opportunities website where you will be able to access the summer learning digital materials beginning on June 24th.

Estimadas Familias,

Nos complace invitar a su estudiante de la escuela de Falls Church a participar en el programa del verano Continuidad de Aprendizaje. Este programa es gratis y opcional. Será disponible a todos los estudiantes y será virtual. Los estudiantes tendrán acceso a materiales digitales autodirigidos para desarrollar destrezas y conceptos en matemáticas y alfabetización. Los materiales no serán recolectados ni clasificados. Este programa es diferente a el programa de Recuperación de Crédito. 

Los maestros de la escuela de Falls Church estarán disponibles durante un horario de oficina semanal para proporcionar comentarios y apoyo a los estudiantes con su aprendizaje. Los horarios de oficina tendrán lugar el 29 de junio al 31 de julio. Además al apoyo de matemáticas y alfabetización, habrá un maestro que proporcionará apoyo de educaion especial y un maestro que proporcionará apoyo a los estudiantes que están aprendiendo Inglés.
